Information Assurance and Cyber Security Degrees in New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s diverse economy presents a variety of opportunities for current and aspiring cyber security professionals. Previously known for traditional agriculture and manufacturing workers, the state made an aggressive push into tech-intensive smart manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism, each of which have specific cyber security needs. Major private businesses continue to operate in the state, as well, including several leading information technology and cyber security firms. To accommodate the growing demand for cyber security professionals, at least six colleges and universities offer programs in the area, including bachelor’s and associate’s degrees.

Cyber Security Jobs in New Hampshire

New Hampshire cyber and information security professionals are in high demand and command some of the highest salaries in the country. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, mean pay for information security analysts was $90-100k in May 2016, and there’s reason to believe that pay will increase with rising demand. Nashua, Merrimack, Manchester, Hudson, and Portsmouth are the biggest job hubs for information security workers, with a high concentration of nationally ranked universities and hospitals. The state is also home to major offices for IT and security firms like Infosys Limited, Dataserv Inc., Bae Systems, Oracle, Trianz, and more. Other employers include consulting, financial, and business services like Fidelity Investments, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase, and Accenture, all of which need experienced professionals in digital forensics, systems architecture, vulnerability assessments, cryptography, and other essential cyber security skills. In addition to seasoned experts, New Hampshire is an excellent place to start your information security career: about half of the state’s openings are for entry-level positions.

Cyber Security Degrees in New Hampshire

A certificate in information technology security is available from NHTI Concord’s Community College that consists of 12 credits: Information Security, Network Security, Administering Windows Server, and Advanced Windows Server Configuration.

Associate degrees in cyber security specializations are offered by four two-year schools: Great Bay Community College in Cyber Security Infrastructure; Manchester Community College in Cybersecurity Investigations; Nashua Community College in Cybersecurity Networking; and River Valley Community College in Cybersecurity & Healthcare IT (with a certificate available as well).

One bachelor’s and two master’s degrees in cyber security specializations are available from Southern New Hampshire University, which offers a BS in Information Technologies – Cyber Security, MS in Cyber Security, and MS in Information Technology – Information Security.
